Joining and Membership

Membership of the Club is open to all owners and keepers of dogs of every breed and type. No geographical restrictions apply.

An annual Membership subscription is payable on joining the club, and thereafter, annually on 1st January.
For existing members who renew their membership before 31st January each year, a special discounted renewal fee is charged (See club Newsletters towards the end of the year)

Membership provides access to all the dog club activities (Training, Agility, Fly-ball, etc.) without any additional charge except for the class attendance fee.

Members are also invited to special events and social activities that may be arranged during the year.

All paid Members have voting rights (subject to the currently approved Rules) and may attend the Annual General Meeting

Training Fees

For all Training Classes, including Scenting, Obedience and all Activity Classes (Agility, Fly-ball, etc) a £1 per session fee is charged, payable on the day.

Joining the Club

Puppy Classes

If you wish to join the Club for Puppy Classes, you dog should be no more than 18 weeks of age.

The youngest age is normally around 12 weeks (I.e. Approx 2 weeks after second injections or as advised by your vet)

There is no need to contact the club beforehand, just arrive any Tuesday evening between 7:00 and 7:15pm, ready to join in the class scheduled to start at 7:30.

Please bring with you your dogs inoculation Certificate and details of your vet.

Mainstream Classes

Mainstream Training Classes, from Beginners to Class 5, have new scheduled intakes approximately every 8 weeks.

To join the club it is helpful if you can attend any Sunday or Wednesday in the 4 weeks preceding the next scheduled intake date (see below).

Although it is possible to join on intake dates, not only does prior attendance reduce the administration time, but it also allows potential new Members to take a look at the Club and it's facilities, as well as seeing training in progress.

The next available intake dates are:

Sunday 4th July 2010 at 10:00am
and
Wednesday 7th July 2010 at 7:15pm

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for enrolment

Induction Day (First Sunday & Wednesday Only)

If you intend to start on either of the dates scheduled above, whichever day you select, please consider this to be your 'Induction Day' for we would kindly ask that you to attend 'without' your dog.

It is acceptable to bring your dog with you only if you are able to leave it in the car, or with another handler who does not wish to hear the Induction Talk.

(Note - This 'No-Dog' rule does not apply to any other Section or existing members already assigned into a class)

This will enable us to provide a 30-40 minute talk in which new members will be informed about:

Hints & Tips for getting started
Introduction to Instructors
Brief demonstration
Social Events
Questions
Special presentation by one of our Behaviourists

Hints for Beginners

All Mainstream training is carried out outdoors, therefore dress appropriately for the prevailing weather conditions.
Bring with you a plentiful supply of dog treats. These should be small, thumbnail size treats that your dog will respond to. (You may wish to consider "Training Only" treats that you use just when attending classes).
Arrive 10-15 mins before your class is scheduled to begin. This provides a short period of socialization opportunity for handlers, as well as dogs.
If you have any particular questions or concerns, talk to an Instructor.
With over 500 ongoing Memberships, we have a lot of experience for all types of dog behavior.
It is unlikely your dog's problems will be a first!
